How to get everyone involved in your BD strategy

Marketing & business development (MBD) and client relationship management (CRM) are central to the ongoing growth and success of any organisation. After my conversation with the in-house lawyer, I was inspired to turn to another friend - let’s call her Fatima - for insight into the role of the legal business development specialist, and how it has changed.

5 Ted Talks to get clients & end-users engaged

Successful client engagement is about making connections. With this in mind I want to talk about engagement marketing in a more interesting and creative way. It is broadly defined as ‘the use of strategic, and resourceful content to engage people, companies, or brands in order to create meaningful interactions over time’.

In-house legal departments: dynamic disruptors?

As an information professional I am fascinated by the way in which information spreads across an organisation. And - as far as information management is concerned - I’m always keen to learn more about different sectors and industries. Take in-house legal departments, for example: legally qualified people fulfilling a vital role in their company’s long-term success. Challenge the status quo: Build better client relationships in 2019

Why fix what you don’t think is broken? Once upon a time a single organisation-wide internal newsletter was good enough. However it is increasingly apparent that basic daily alerts are old-fashioned and inadequate. Not only that, but businesses need to connect and collaborate with their clients. "Legal Upheaval" by Michele DeStefano (book review)

Yet, according to Ken Haycock, few beginning Library and Information Science students will say they want to be managers or leaders in the field. What’s more, many LIS graduates also complain1 that they lacked training and education in management during their studies, while others say2 that management modules that were offered but they were not required. So what training would LIS students need to feel qualified to be library managers?

If clients aren’t asking for it, you’re not getting it

If clients aren’t asking for it, you’re not getting it. Or so the saying goes. There is currently much talk in the industry saying that the legal sector has hit a wall when it comes to driving forward change. Law firms are waiting on clients to push them to change, whilst, in contrast, clients seem to be waiting on law firms to be proactive or change in response to market pressure (D. Casey Flaherty, 2016).

Library and marketing: On friendship and competition

We’re seeing a growing trend towards a closer alignment between the marketing department and library teams as the two functions come to work together. Admittedly, this isn’t a particularly new trend but it is certainly one that is here to stay. Yet, even after years of discussing the benefits of collaboration, we are still learning how to make our businesses more competitive.
